Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty – Always an Unforgettable Experience

With summertime here, now is the perfect time to take a visit to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. These historic sites represent the immigrant journey and what it what like for people from other countries who wanted to be an American. See Ellis Island with Walks US

Thanks to Walks US, you can spend four hours on this tour that takes you to both Liberty Island and Ellis Island. You’ll leave from Battery Park in lower Manhattan, but not before you stop by some other monuments along the way. Walks US limits their tours to a 20-person maximum so you’ll have an intimate experience.

As these tours leave early in the morning, you’ll have priority boarding at one of the many ferries in Battery Park. All you have to do is arrive and everything else is taken care of. You’ll arrive at the Statue of Liberty before the crowds which will give you a look that few get. With the tour of the statue, you’ll also be granted special access to the pedestal. Guests must be able to walk up and down 215 steps for this tour.

Sorry, No Visits to the Crown!Statue of LIberty in New York

Due to National Park regulations, no visitor to the Statue of Liberty can access the crown. This is due to security measures currently in place. Airport like security will also be found when arriving at the Statue of Liberty. Certain items are prohibited and will be confiscated and not returned. Once you arrive at Liberty Island, if you are carrying a backpack or large bag, you will have to store it in a locker. Lockers are available for $2 and only accept bills as a form of payment.

On to Ellis Island

From the Statue of Liberty, you will board another ferry, bound for Ellis Island. There is a ton to see and do at Ellis Island. You’ll want to bring scratch paper and a pencil. Why? There is a wall on the island that lists every traveler who went through Ellis Island. You can scratch their name from the wall and onto the paper and have a memorable keepsake of your ancestor who traveled through their on their way to a new life.

The island had two very different names, The Island of Hope and the Island of Tears. You and your group will explore the various displays and your tour guide will answer any and all questions.
