Need a place that is a museum but is hands on for every member of the family? Look no further than a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry, located on Chicago’s beautiful lakefront. Open daily from 9:30 to 4:00, this is a place that is interactive, you might even forget that you are in a museum!

Museum of Science and Industry Almost Overwhelming

When you stop in the Wired to Wear exhibit, you’ll be able to fully immerse yourself in the world of wearable technology. In this exhibit, you’ll be among the first to experience the merging of technology and the human body.

Think Apple Watches, the exhibit will teach visitors about how these items make us healthier, stronger and safer. Among some of the things you will see include a jacket that helps you see in the dark, wearables that express your emotions, and a jet suit that can transport you 32 miles per hour.

A Unique Piece of History

Another popular gallery is the Go Underground: Coal Mine exhibit. Put on your hard hat and ride the rails. This exhibit was the very first one that opened at the Museum of Science and Industry and still captures people today.

The interactive tour of this coal mine will teach guests the art of mining, methods used by coal miners, and lessons on the Museum Science Industry Chicago Vintage Trainmachinery that was used. You’ll even get to ride a coal mine train.

Calling History Buffs

Is history your thing? You won’t want to miss a visit to the U-505 Submarine. This submarine on display is the only German submarine in the United States. There are nearly 200 artifacts in this location, along with videos and photos that are just waiting to be seen.

As for interactive experiences, see if you can handle sleeping in a rack or using the galley kitchen. Trust us, it’s not as easy at is seems. To make it feel even more real, the team at the museum has sound and lighting effects added to make the exhibit come to life.

A Visual Experience

Everyone loves weather and with a visit to the museum, you’ll be put into the forefront of it.
